Michael was runner-up in the Aspect Painting Prize (previously Kennox Prize) in 2003.
He was awarded The Art Hire Prize in 2005, Paisley Art Institute Annual Exhibition.
2007 and 2008, The Wren Gallery Award, for Still Life Painting, Paisley Art Institute Exhibition.

In 2007, his work was selected for the Singer Friedlander Watercolour Competition.
In 2003 he was elected a Professional member of Visual Arts Scotland and an Artist member of Paisley Art Institute. He was elected as an Artist Member of The Glasgow Art Club in 2006.
